Carole Sharma

Carole Sharma has 25 years extensive experience of all types of work in the drugs and alcohol field across the health service and the voluntary sector and has provided education and training services to a wide range of professionals.

She became extremely well known  as the Workforce Development Manager at the National Treatment Agency . There, she has been one of the major forces driving the move towards DANOS, competency based practice and the development of a clear qualification framework for the sector. Working with colleagues across government she was one of the architects of the current Cross Departmental substance Misuse Workforce Development Plan.

Now working independently she offers consultancy and management support on a range of issues including; workforce development and making sense of the NTA workforce targets,  management of drug and alcohol services, and developing staff teams, she also offers one to one coaching for managers within the sector.

She brings to any project three key areas of expertise:

  • Practitioner expertise: as a substance misuse specialist for 25 years Carole has demonstrated a commitment to the provision of high quality services for drug and alcohol users. She believes that drug and alcohol users have a valid contribution to make to society and that services exist to assist them to achieve their full potential.

  • Management development: as an employer she has considerable experience of staff development and the principles of life long learning. As the Workforce planning manager for the NTA, she  worked intensively  with the major national bodies responsible for driving the skills agenda giving her a practical experience of issues in change management and joint working across major organisations.  She has also  managed staff development systems based on appraisal and have successfully assisted individuals to reach their potential.

  • Diversity: Carole is committed to ensuring that the needs of the whole population are addressed within my work. She  practices in an anti-discriminatory manner and ensure that she educates herself in the cultural needs of others. She challenges discrimination in all aspects of life especially the professional. She expects  to work in an environment that respects difference does her best to ensure that this is maintained.
