MPs on the Science and Technology Committee have called for greater efforts to help the public understand alcohol guidelines . It also calls for a further scientific review to build public confidence, although based on the evidence presented the guidelines should not be relaxed. A new Institute of Medicine report specifies the types of research that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) should require before allowing tobacco companies to sell or advertise ‘modified risk’ tobacco products as being capable of reducing the health risks of tobacco use.
Agenda: On the morning of July 21, 2011, the Committee will discuss changes proposed by Committee members to the TPSAC Menthol Report submitted to the agency on March 18, 2011. The Committee will consider additional oral and written comments from the public. The Committee will consider and deliberate on proposed changes to the report and adopt amendments that constitute the advice of the Committee

The Transport Select Committee has not backed a cut to the current drink-drive limit in its first report to the new parliament. Earlier this year a seperate report called for the drink-drive limit to be reduced from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood to 50mg, similar to most of Europe.
