On Wednesday, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) is due to publish fresh guidance on “new approaches to help reduce the harm from smoking tobacco”.
In order to avoid harms associated with alcohol consumption, in 2009 the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism issued guidelines that define low-risk drinking. These guidelines differ for men and women: no more than four drinks per day, and 14 drinks per week for men, and no more than three drinks per day, and seven drinks per week for women…

Commissioners in England are being asked to partake in a survey of alcohol services in hospital settings in England by the National Treatment Agency (NTA). The NTA are to be part of Public Health England (PHE) as of 1st April. Investment in a variety of models of hospital based alcohol services has increased in recent years, particularly since 2009 Department of Health alcohol guidance identified 'Appoint an Alcohol Health Worker' as a 'High Impact Change'.

Continued, frequent use of marijuana by middle and high school aged kids in the U.S. in combination with a reduction in perceptions of its risks, were seen in a new survey conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan. The survey, completed nationwide earlier in the year was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
