Course rationale

This course aims to give frontline workers the skills required to handle clients under the influence of drink or drugs in a manner that ensures the safety of everyone concerned. It will also enable managers to detail the necessary components of an effective policy.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to: -

Clarify best practice about working safely for an effective policy,

Assess when a client is intoxicated,

Use simple techniques to ensure that the situation is contained,

Prevent a situation escalating into a confrontation,

Give simple advice to an intoxicated person about what should be done next,

Identify when help from a third party is required,

Who is the course for?

Frontline staff and managers who have to deal with people who are intoxicated.
