Brief Interventions (structured brief advice) for problem drinkers

Most people consider what they drink 'normal'

Most heavy drinkers consider what they are doing normal and will only really notice when they are going beyond their usual and experience unfortunate or unexpected consequences.
It is dangerous then to assume that just because a lot has been taken over a long period that the client will understand their consumption, They may do but the chances are  that there will be no real understanding of the effects of the drugs in any more but the short term (the hangover and the day after). Information will help people to be more informed and realistic about what they are doing and so Rationale
This one-day course examines looks at how workers can screen clients who have an alcohol problem and the kinds of support that are available.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants will be able to:
  • List common physiological and psychological effects of drugs and alcohol
  • Decide when it is appropriate to offer a brief intervention with a client
